Windows 11

The most recent major update of Microsoft's Windows NT operating system, Windows 11, was made available in October 2021. Any Windows 10 devices that satisfy the new Windows 11 system requirements can download the free update to its predecessor, Windows 10 (2015).

Like its predecessor, Windows 10, Internet Explorer (IE) has been replaced as the default web browser by the Chromium-based Microsoft Edge, and Microsoft Teams has been incorporated into the Windows shell. Microsoft has made plans to offer Android apps on Windows 11 and to give software distribution options through the Microsoft Store more flexibility (including a partnership with Amazon to make the function available through its app store).

The system requirements for Windows 11 were raised compared to Windows 10 for security reasons. Microsoft will only provide exceptions to the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0 requirement for OEMs if the device has an eighth-generation Intel Core CPU or newer (with some minor exceptions), a second-generation AMD Ryzen CPU or newer, or a Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 ARM system-on-chip or newer.

Although the OS can be installed on CPUs that are not supported, Microsoft does not promise that updates will be available. Windows 11 discontinued support for hardware with BIOS firmware and 32-bit x86 and ARM CPUs.
